The aim of the first-cycle study programme in Musicology is to provide graduates with the extent of fundamental knowledge comparable to the international standards of musicology. This encompasses an auditory perception and analytical recognition of musical elements and structures, an understanding of music as a historical phenomenon embedded in its current political and cultural context, insights into music as a universal cultural phenomenon reflected in the creativity of different genres and social function, and finally: familiarity with fundamental issues of systematic musicology, which examines musical phenomena from sociological, aesthetical, psychological, and other perspectives in an effort to shed light on the universal laws of the art of music. The knowledge acquired in this programme enables students to perform analyses and evaluation of works of music and their placement in the relevant historical, social, and philosophical contexts. Graduates are eligible for employment in the broad spectrum of institutions and companies involved in the production, reproduction, and transmission of music, as well as media houses and institutions involved in maintaining cultural heritage.
First-cycle study programme lasts three years (six semesters) and has a cumulative worth of 180 ECTS credit points.
