K prijavi vabimo individualne prispevke, panele, okrogle mize in filme, ki se osredotočajo na raziskavo romskih in sintskih glasbenikov in glasbenic ter tudi glasbenikov in glasbenic podobnih skupin, kot so npr. Aškalije in (balkanski) Egipčani, ne glede na geografsko področje, časovno obdobje, glasbeni žanr ali stil, akademsko disciplino in teoretski ali metodološki pristop. Osrednje teme iz naslova simpozija so:
1) Država: državne socialne in kulturne politike, ki vplivajo na različne načine na dejavnosti romskih in sintskih glasbenikov in glasbenic, na njihov družbeni položaj, samopredstavitev, repertoar, razloge in prostore za nastope, stilne značilnosti in druge domene.
2) Trg: strategije romskih in sintskih glasbenikov in glasbenic v glokalnih okoliščinah, nekoč in danes, glede na starost, spol, ekonomski položaj, tehnologijo, glasbene izbire, navzočnost v medijih, stopnjo profesionalizma in druge relevantne vidike.
3) Družba: družbene in glasbene interakcije med romskimi ali sintskimi glasbeniki in glasbenicami ter njihovimi romskimi/sintskimi in neromskimi/nesintskimi publikami na nivojih posameznikov, skupnosti in širše družbe.
Rok za oddajo prispevkov je 30. januar 2025.
Programski odbor simpozija bo obvestil prijavljene o sprejetju prispevkov do konca februarja 2025. Rok za potrdilo udeležbe na simpoziju je 31. marec 2025.
Predlogi za predstavitve prispevkov (v slovenskem ali angleškem jeziku) v kategorijah referatov in filmov naj vsebujejo povzetek (250 besed) in biografijo avtorja oz. avtorice (150 besed). Predlogi za predstavitve organiziranih panelov in okroglih miz naj poleg povzetkov individualnih prispevkov (vsak 250 besed) in posameznih biografij avtorjev oz. avtoric (vsaka 150 besed) vključujejo še splošni povzetek panela/okrogle mize (200 besed).
Programski odbor simpozija načrtuje prispevke iz simpozija objaviti v obliki recenzirane znanstvene monografije na temo romskih in sintskih glasbenikov ter glasbenic na Slovenskem, ki bo izšla do septembra 2026. Tisti udeleženci in udeleženke simpozija, ki želijo izdati svoje prispevke v skupni monografiji simpozija, naj (a) na to opozorijo v svoji prijavi na simpozij ter (b) pošljejo končno različico prispevka na naslov simpozija do 15. septembra 2025.

Call for Papers: Symposium Romani and Sinti Musicians between the State, Market, and Society
Ljubljana, Slovenia, 21–23 August 2025
The Slovenian research group Romani and Sinti Musicians in Slovenia from the Department of Musicology, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, is organizing an international and interdisciplinary symposium titled Romani and Sinti Musicians between the State, Market, and Society.
We invite submissions of paper, panel, round table, and film proposals focusing on Romani and Sinti as well as on musicians from other related groups, such as for instance Ashkalis, and (Balkan) Egyptians, regardless of regions, time periods, genres, styles, scholarly disciplines, and theoretical and methodological approaches. The key terms from the title of the symposium are elaborated as follows:
1) State: State’s social and cultural policies affecting in a variety of ways the activities of Romani and Sinti musicians, their social status, self-representation, repertoire, motives and venues for performances, stylistic features, and other domains.
2) Market: Strategies of Romani and Sinti musicians in addressing glocal circumstances, past and present, in terms of age, gender, economic status, technology, musical choices, presence in the media, level of professionalism, and other relevant factors.
3) Society: Social and musical interactions between Romani and Sinti musicians and their Romani/Sinti and non-Romani/non-Sinti audiences on the levels of individuals, communities and larger societies.
Deadline for submission of the proposals is 30 January 2025.
Symposium’s program committee will send out notifications of acceptance by the end of February 2025. Deadline for the participants’ confirmations of attendance is 31 March 2025.
Proposals (in English or Slovenian language) for paper and film presentations should include an abstract (250 words) and a bio (150 words). Proposals for pre-organized panels and round tables should include abstracts of individual presentations (250 words each), the bios (150 words each), and a general panel/round table abstract (200 words).
